Weekend Portfolio: Julián Terán

Born in La Plata in 1977, Julián Terán completed studies as Painting Professor at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón (IUNA). He has participated in several workshops and learned photography. Last year, he obtained the 2nd Prize in the 2010 edition of Premio Fundación Williams Arte Joven.

Terán has done three solo exhibits: Mi casa (My Home) at Museo provincial de Bellas Artes J.R Vidal (Corrientes), 2011; Nacimiento de una isla (The Birth of an Island) (2009) and Vol. 1 (2007), both at Juana de Arco. He has participated in several group shows and art fairs, such as ArteBA and Pinta.

As a musician, he played with Undercolour in La Plata and recorded an EP with them. Currently, he plays as soloist and edited a record in 2008/09. He also plays in the duo Skinny Warhols.

About the work

“In my drawings converge ideas of surface, frontier and the duality of sense: up and down, front and rear, which can stand on the earth with a geological look or in our own body, be it in a physical, psychic or emotional way. An attempt to disclose the deep hidden on the surface. I want to recreate those landscapes that can develop in the physical world or inside the mind and can span the deep universe or a sand grain or a thought or a feeling.

From chaos and confusion inside us, and in the manner of volcanic vomit, the mysterious inside externalizes as something solid, visible and clear, but carrying the traces of its intestinal origins.”
