Ariel Authier

Ariel Authier

Born as a fetishist at the same time the first single from Roxy Music was issued at the opposite side of the world, Ariel Authier always had problems telling the difference between the real and the copy, art and pornography, between his left and right hands or Buenos Aires and Berlin. Since early childhood, he was medically advised to start using a camera to solve some of these problems, which he has done until today, without any improvement. His criminal record states a deviant involvement with several highly suspicious groupings like Foto-Shop or his fraudulent one with Gabriela Schevach. Some years ago, after being temporarily blinded by a fake Caravaggio, he discovered that a word might be worth a thousand images, so he decided to write about the things his cameras cannot see. His current whereabouts are unknown though rumors say that he was recently spotted in Chinatown searching for queer seafood.

Gabriela Schevach

Gabriela Schevach

I sometimes forget I’m a photographer. I think I’m a film maker, a model, a writer, a trend-researcher, an editor, a journalist, an artist, a gallery owner or a puppeteer, someone useful. Why is this profession so easily forgotten?

In a newspaper in Buenos Aires, the image of a classic dancer is to appear on the cover of their Sunday magazine. Very nice, but his testicles, tight under his leggings, are too huge. Design department corrects it using photoshop. A couple of years later, I am hired to work as a picture editor for that magazine. I have some trouble with the journalistic formula: pictures = information.

Far away, I’m hiding in a fitting room to take pictures of children’s clothes to send them across the ocean. I sell pictures and information. The reply of the person who receives them is that those aren’t photos Girls’ clothing.

I have the strange feeling that I could talk about pictures forever. Looking at them like a spy, avid voyeur, reading them like a literary fan and behaving like an actress in drag in front of them.
